Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame Celebrates Second Year at Museum of American Speed
LINCOLN, NE – September 17, 2026 – The Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame, the nation’s longest- running BMX Hall of Fame, last year officially partnered with the Museum of American Speed to establish its first-ever permanent home. Founded in 2010 by Omaha native and former professional BMX racer Tim Lillethorup, the Hall of Fame recognizes the racers, industry leaders, and supporters who have shaped BMX in Nebraska.
BMX began in Southern California in the 1970s and quickly gained momentum nationwide, with Nebraska becoming home to multiple tracks and a thriving scene. Today, BMX is a global sport and an Olympic discipline, celebrated in both racing and freestyle formats. Since its inception, the Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame has honored its inductees through its website, www.NebraskaBMXHallofFame.com, and annual induction ceremonies, but until 2025,
it lacked a dedicated physical space.
“This new location at the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln provides the perfect setting to preserve Nebraska’s BMX heritage and honor the individuals who made it possible,” said Brad Fanshaw, a Nebraska Hall of Fame Inductee and Board Member. “It ensures the stories and legacy of our sport will be shared with future generations.”
The Museum of American Speed, already home to several prestigious motorsports halls of fame, has dedicated a full exhibit area to BMX history. Visitors explore detailed inductee profiles alongside vintage BMX bikes from every decade, rider uniforms, trophies, dioramas, and artifacts that capture the sport’s culture and evolution.
In addition, the Museum will now host the annual Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony, with the 2026 event set for October 24th. Full event and ticket details are available at the website. The 2026 event is highlighted with honored guests and BMX Icons Stu Thomsen and Mike Miranda. Each are flying to Nebraska for the event and these professional BMX racers are recognized globally as leaders that are each inducted into the National BMX
Hall of Fame. The day will begin with a national level BMX bicycle show and competition presented by the ABSApro (American Bike Show Association) and the world’s largest rolling BMX display of Redline Bikes and memorabilia from Rob Lane Redline Collection. Outside of the museum, will be an action packed BMX freestyle exhibition from Nebraska’s Nowear team. Then it is all highlighted by an autograph signing and the induction ceremony and dinner for the 2026 Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame.
In 2025, the Museum of American Speed partnered with Brad and Charlotte Fanshaw to award the Nebraska Cup. This award was established by the Fanshaws to recognize individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional leadership and a lasting commitment to youth activities, mentorship, and community involvement. The Nebraska Cup celebrates those who use their time, experience, and resources to inspire young people, create opportunities, and strengthen the communities they serve. Presented annually, the award honors the spirit of leadership, service, and giving back that has long been an important part of Nebraska’s heritage. In addition to an individual award the museum will permanently display a perpetual trophy with the names of annual winners proudly displayed on a unique hand-crafted trophy made in Nebraska.
The Nebraska BMX Hall of Fame celebrates contributors from across the sport, with categories including: Riders of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, Freestyle, and Industry. Selections are made by a dedicated Board of Advisors who manage nominations and events. Founded in 1992 by “Speedy” Bill and Joyce Smith, the Museum of American Speed spans 200,000 square feet and attracts visitors from around the world. Exhibits include the Unser Racing Museum, Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Hall of Fame, Herzog Motorsports, NASCAR, SCCA Hall of Fame, GM, and more.
