1953 Studebaker DOHC V-8

• J.C. Agajanian invested $225,000 to have this engine designed and built.
  • The Miller influence is obvious because the engine was designed by Leo Goossen.
  • The engine was built by Willy Utzman with other notables such as Stu Hilborn and Clay Smith.

• During qualifying with Allen Heath driving in 1952 the high torque starter twisted off the crankshaft nose which forced the team to withdraw.
• Another car powered by this engine attempted to qualify in 1956 with Dick Rathman driving, also an unsuccessful attempt.​
