Babe Stapp was one of the top Legion Ascot drivers on the 1920s. He raced in the Indianapolis 500 13 times, with a best finish of fifth in 1939. Stapp retired from driving in 1940, and opened a machine shop in Glendale. Babe’s son Steve became one of the top sprint car owners in the history of the sport in the 1970s.
Babe developed the head for this engine for midget racing. It is an F-head style on a Ferguson block.
