​2002 Toyota RV8F CART engine

   Toyota Racing Development (TRD), U.S.A., based in Costa Mesa, California, introduced Toyota’s new RV8F DOHC V-8 racing engine to Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) in 2002.

   At the time, the RV8F (Racing V8 series F) was the only U.S.-designed and built engine in Champ Car racing.

​   This aluminum-alloy V-8 engine is normally aspirated, with fuel injection, has dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, displaces 2.65-liters (161.7 cubic inches) and put out more than 800 hp.

​   The RV8F and its predecessor RV8E, were the only U.S.-designed and built engines to win CART events in their preceding 20 years.

​   The 2003 successor to the RV8F engine was the RV8I (Racing V8 Indy), designed specifically for IRL.  The RV8I had 3.5-liters (213.6-c.i.) displacement, 32 valves, DOHC, and was normally aspirated.
