This car was built for the 1973 USAC midget circuit by Red Caruthers, Anaheim, California.
It was driven by Bobby Olivero, who won six races in 1973, Lost Creek, Kentucky; Sun Pairie, Wisconsin; Olympia and Skagit, Washington; Victoria, British Columbia and Wichita, Kansas. The year 1974 was almost as good, with victories at Wichita; Omaha, Nebraska; Terre Haute, Indiana and Phoenix, Arizona. Three wins were records in 1975 at San Jose and twice at San Bernardino in California. Olivero’s last win in the car occurred at Ascot Park in Gardena, California. This car was revolutionary for the time as it was the first midget to win with a Volkswagen engine. |
