​Supercharged Offy 110

This engine was built by Meyer & Drake for the AAA Championship Trail in mind.  It was based on a 91-cubic inch Offenhauser midget engine stroked to 106c.i.  Placed in a special chassis built just for the engine, it was basically a midget frame stretched two-feet to meet championship specifications.

​     Because the car and engine combination was much lighter than most of the cars on the championship trail it proved to be very competitive.  After a few races spent sorting the car out, victories were recorded by Tony Bettenhausen at DuQuoin and Detroit.
 
     The other owners on the circuit quickly raised objections, charging Meyer & Drake with what amounted to insider trading.  Owning a car with a one-off power-plant, while selling customers the standard 270c.i. engines and then beating them, did not sit well. 
 
     Meyer & Drake wasted no time selling the car to Murrell Bellanger, who then replaced the supercharged Offy with a normally aspirated engine from Meyer & Drake.
