The World's Fastest Growing Museum

Founded in 1992 by “Speedy” Bill and Joyce Smith, the Museum of American Speed is dedicated to preserving, interpreting and displaying physical items significant in racing and automotive history. The vast collection resulted from the Smiths’ personal involvement in racing and hot rodding for more than six decades, and their lifelong passion for collecting and preserving historic automotive artifacts. 

Today, we are striving to foster innovation with younger generations by hosting educational and family friendly events to engage those in our local community. We are working to incorporate more interactive displays, racing simulators, a slot car track, an upgraded LEGO track, and more, to enhance our visitors’ experience. Our goal is to continue to fuel the passion for automotive history, innovation, and technical skills with our future generations to come.

Our Partnerships

With a 90,000 sq. ft. expansion nearly completed, we are proud to partner and expand our collection with the most influential names in automobile history. Expect to experience new displays from the renowned, Unser Racing Museum coming in 2024 as well as ongoing rotating displays from the Darryl Starbird Rod and Custom Hall of Fame, a fabulous Off Road and Pikes Peak diorama in partnership with the Herzog Motorsports Group. Additionally, we're designing enhanced exhibits for NASCAR, the SCCA Hall of Fame, factory GM displays, and so much more!
