Bill Smith, after being very successful on area dirt tracks during the mid 50's pre-modified days, decided to go for the “big money” available on Sunday nights at Olympic Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.  This facility was a “show stock” venue, meaning the engines were required to look the same as in a production automobile, a common rule at the time.  However, after several tries, Bill was unable to beat one particular team who happened to be sponsored by a local Ford dealer. This could only be explained by the very good possibility that they were somehow cheating, but no proof could be found.

   
​  Years later, one of Bill's friends was checking out garage sales in the Kansas City area and discovered this unusual intake manifold setup.  It has a second throttle body attached to the underside of the manifold and an extra breather pipe.  The result is functionally a dual carburation system.  The friend called Bill who inquired the name of the people selling it. 

​   When his friend replied that it was Junior Hower’s family sale, Bill knew immediately it was the same family that Bill could not beat.  He asked his friend to buy the pieces on display here, for finally, after many years, Bill had discovered how the “big money” had escaped his grasp. 
 
   Also included in this display is a set of Canadian heads which yielded an extra point of compression ratio.
