Edsel's Hot Rod

   This is a well known 1912 Ford "6" Speedster which was built by Ford as an engineering study.

   Under the hood rests an ultra-rare inline six-cylinder engine built by Ford. It has long been known that Henry Ford despised six-cylinder engines, even to the point of firing his brother-in-law for suggesting the Model T be replaced with a six-cylinder car. Edsel had experimented with six-cylinder engines and after he was elevated to the presidency of Ford Motor Co., he pushed for using six cylinder engines despite Henry's resistance.

   This speedster could very well be Edsel's first hot rod, or at least its direct successor. It is believed to have been built in 1912. It shares much of the standard Model T's architecture along with the planetary transmission and chassis.
