​Lloyd Beckman started his auto racing career in 1949 and he quickly became a force to be reckoned with. He won the Nebraska Modified Racing Association Championship in 1961-’62, driving Bill Smith’s No. 4x modified sedan, winning 16 features in a row at one point. 

   When the NMRA converted to supermodifieds, Beckman adapted quickly to the new cars and won championships in 1964 with Smith, 1966 with Charlie Williams and Gary Swenson, 1968 and 1969 with Larry Swanson and 1971, again with Smith. In 1982 he won the Midwest Speedway Track Championship driving for Carson Smith and retired after the 1983 season with the record for career wins at both Midwest Speedway in Lincoln and Eagle Raceway. 

​   Lloyd just missed winning the Knoxville Nationals in 1966, finishing second and was the first person to drive a lap at Belleville, Kansas under 20-seconds.  His 19.94-second lap in 1968 was hailed as the perfect tour of that track by Hall-of-Fame writer, L.A. Ward.
